Upcoming Performances & Events

Wellspring is delighted to be home of the Colorado New Musical Festival, about to start it's 4th season! This festival reviews submissions of new work from artists locally and globally with a focus on bringing forward historically marginalized voices to tell new stories on stage. Free & open to the public join us at the Broomfield Auditorium (18 & 20) and The Refuge (19) to enjoy an evening of new musical works!

 

Selected works, in part or in whole, are developed for publicly staged readings. Authors and composers, seeing their works interpreted by new creative teams, develop an understanding of how audiences are responding to their storytelling, how songs and dialogue are being interpreted by casts and directors, and how their work might benefit from new edits. Creative teams thrive in collaboration, seeking understanding and playing an important role in originating new characters. Audiences engage with inspiring new work, spark conversation from diverse stories, and connect through shared experience.

This year's festival will feature selections from the following musicals,

a 10 person ensemble cast will share segments of these stories as a showcase performance,

all three nights will be the same content.

AY, AY, AY, AND THE WESTSIDE STORIES
Surrealist commentary on White American theater. Self aware, weird, funny, sharp and delightful.

AIM FOR THE BRAIN

A musical set in the 40s, wrapped around the 90s, with a pulpy Old Hollywood horror movie at
its core. Twenty-year-old Lindy rides a manic-depressive swing described by herself fifty years
later, to a psychiatrist trying to fix her “cure”. Dark comedy, drama, and surrealism throughout.

True story about adoption law, identity, and advocacy.

True story about a successful performer JULIAN ELTINGE,

who was a “female impersonator” in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Ensemble show 4 actors play all roles.

DEWEY EYED
Short 1 act romantic comedy in a Library

LAST IBEX
The Last Ibex focuses on a brother and sister, Joseph and Petra, who make divergent choices to save their family. Joseph smuggles endangered ibex through the Alps but falls in love with the animals he's supposed to kill.

Petra demands land justice for her neighbors and becomes the unwitting leader of a peasant rebellion against their landlord.

Local Singles revolves around the last surviving support group for lonely people.

A PROBLEM WITH THE PATTERSONS

The Pattersons live in a world where everyone gets straight A’s and the meatloaf is never overcooked. But after witnessing a mysterious murder in a world seemingly void of crime, Paul, Peg, Patty and Peter Patterson realize that nothing is what it seems.
